A slab of limestone showing the early land plant Cooksonia. 420 Million Years Old. Silurian Period. Wenlock series. Locality Wenlock Edge, Shropshire, UK. The fossil plant measures approx 17mm. The earliest well known plant is found in the middle Silurian and early Devonian. It was named after Isabel Cookson who collected and described this plant. The plant grew only a few centimeters and had a very simple stucture. It was never the less a true vascula plant. The earliest fossils of Cooksonia are found in the Wenlock Series of the Silurian in the UK. Overseas buyers please pay in sterling.
