Really beautiful Fish Knife in the Argo pattern by JB & SM Knowles - AKA Mount Vernon Silversmiths Offered at auction is an incredibly rare service piece created in 1892 . I have never run across this pattern but it is a show-stopper. Elegant swirls incorporate the design on both the front and the back of the handle. And as remarkable as it may be... t are no indications of ever being monogrammed. Plus t is no indication of a removal. Very unusual for this time period. I searched several online sites for matching pieces and they are almost non-existant. I would guess that this pattern became a victim of the 'Great American Meltdown' of the 80s. Frankly, I fear that a similar melt-down is happening now. People are turning in incredibly rare sterling pieces for cash. It is such a shame, but I guess we all do what we must... I just wish I had the $$$ to buy it all. While I believe this to be a fish knife... its uses are limitless. It is solid sterling and heavy for its size... 81 grams. It is 10 1/2 inches long and the blade itself is 6 1/4 X 2 1/2 inches. It is in beautiful shape with only the usual use or storage scratches. The pattern is crisp and clean and edges are smooth and snag free... t is however, a minor indication that this piece was dropped. The very tip if the blade is slightly flattened. Please view the pictures carefully. I generally take my photographs outside in sunlight to accurately depict the colors and conditions of the items I am offering. If you see any discolorations or other anomalies that would indicate damage, it is either the sun, the clouds, the trees, or me. I try to fully and faithfully disclose any irregularities I find but I am far from perfect and some things may escape my detection. Also, when damage (no matter how minute) I try to make sure that it is clearly depicted in the photos. I believe that I have described the above auction offering accurately and in detail. I know that t are silver lovers out t that wish to harken back to the days of genteel dining and gracious living. Besides, I have come to genuinely appreciate anything that is older than me and still survives. Now for an unpleasant disclosure of terms: Due to the emergence of unscrupulous, dishonest bidders (thieves) I am forced to request than any bidders on my auctions accept and respond to Emails requesting verification of their bid and sometimes a verifiable telephone number. The aforementioned bidders have bid and won my auctions, paid by credit card via PayPal, received and signed for the merchandise, then filed an 'unauthorized' charge with their credit card company, but still refusing to return the auction items.
