This was purchased from the Franklin Mint around 15 years or so. It is in very good condition and comes with the display which is wood and velvety blue background. The blade is of tempered steel and the hilt is embellished with 24 karat gold. This sword is of the Model 1860 staff-officer-type. It has a long, slender, straight, diamond-shaped blade. One side is ornately decorated with designs that include three figures: A United States intrantryman with rifled-musket and fixed bayonet, a Zouave seated, and a bugler signalling his comrades. The opposite side illustrates anofficer observing through field glasses, a staff officer and an infantryman with his rifle-musket at right shoulder arms. The grip is decorated with a Roman helmet, United States sheild flanked with flags and crossed cannon. The other side is decorated with a fish scale pattern. The gilded vase-shaped pommel has an eagle on one side and a plain sheild on the other. The cap of the pommel is decorated with the heads of four classical figures, while the knuckle guard has both sides deocrated with thunderbolts. The counterguard is double-heart shape with the American eagle flanked by three standards on one side and a plain reverse side, which hinged to the quillon. This would make a great addition to any collection.
