This listing offers an antique medication bottle from the pharmacy of a closely related Pfeiffer--Gustavus Adolphus Pfeiffer--Pauline's uncle, in Parkersburg, Iowa. Dating to the late 19th century, the bottle most likely was one of many holding medication which helped 'Uncle Gus' amass a fortune in the early 20th century.Gus was a philanthropic individual, especially when it came to aiding his niece and Hemingway. It was Uncle Gus who gifted the Hemingways with the famous house in Key West. Pfeiffer money also helped finance the Hemingways' Paris apartment and the safari seminal to much of Ernest's writing.Gus Pfeiffer's business acumen brought him ultimately to the presidency of the Richard Hudnut cosmetics empire; his financial backing of Hemingway surely must be considered a benefit to American Literature, and the bottle in this listing is a rare tie to the Pfeiffer / Hemingway legacy.
