MISSING FRONT HAND RAILINGS AND SUPPORTS ON PILOT NO ORIGINAL BOX Because this item was previously owned by another collector (He had four), this engine has been track tested by the seller. The Front/Right and Rear/Left sets of driving wheels are where the power feed is picked up. No pickup from the tender. Pilot/Right and Trailing/Left are also feed wheels. It ran great slow and fast, the final test using momentum on the MRC power pack to see how it would gradually begin to pick up speed. It worked just fine. This item was serviced prior to listing. It has been lubricated, tweaked, checked for all wiring, and drive system parts. Headlight may not work. Motor appears to be one of their newer ones for the period released (late 1970’s-early 1980’s. Special note: This engine is in excellent condition with the exception that the pilot railings are missing. This can be seen in the pictures shown on the eBay pictures and Picture Link One. The missing parts should be available from AHM. Copy of all original instructions and detail information included with the engine. The item is listed AS IS because of this small problem. Otherwise it is just as good as the others listed. Accordingly, the price has been reduced significantly. A true bargain for someone who reads my listings. The detail is unparalleled, incredibly meticulous and the attention to detail is mind-boggling. The prototype engine had most of its piping inside the outer plate so that AHM was able to mold into the shell almost all detail of the prototype. Built by Rivarossi for AHM, the “Union Pacific Articulated 4-8-8-4" Big Boy originally sold in the late '60s for $39.95. By 1980, AHM was listing this model was around $400.00. Today they are vintage but most desirable for a prototypical collector. Largest Steam Locomotive ever built. This engine is one of the articulated engines from a private collection. It was part of a large number of engines that the owner basically displayed as part of large layout but ran infrequently. The item has been checked by our work shop and given a rating of excellent. It is, as it was in real time, a massive engine . There is no original box so it will be double packed to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. This is your chance to get a massive engine at a fraction of the cost of the new ones. This item and those that follow from this collection are priced to sell . AHM began producing highly-detailed ready-to-run plastic steam in the 1960’s. AHM locomotives were unusual for their time in being styrene ready to run, when most other models were cast-metal kits. As the years went by major improvements were made and by 1977 the list price of this engine was over $400.00, more than many brass items.
