For sale is a unique and beautiful Nuernberg Wedding Cup by SKS Design / Artina German Pewter. It is a substantial piece in a fun design, the top cup pivots which enables a bride and groom to both drink at the same time. The workmanship is wonderful, the detailing on the wedding dress gives the illusion of intricate lace embroidery, t is a blank on the top cup which is suitable for engraving. These are not common in the US so I hope not to bore you with the legend, a very short version: The daughter of a rich nobleman fell in love with and wanted to marry a young goldsmith, her father would have none of it and threw the young man into his dungeon. The girl begged for his freedom to no avail; she began wasting away til her distressed father came up with a compromise he felt the goldsmith would be unable to achieve, if the goldsmith could create a chalice from which two people can drink at the same time without spilling a drop the father would free him and they could marry. Obviously the clever goldsmith was able to craft this special Wedding Cup and since then Wedding Cups have become a tradition and symbol thought to fulfil the dream of living happily ever after.
