Ranger pack ARVN Rucksack , consisting of canvas, with drawstring closure and two large outside pockets mounted on a spring steel " X " Frame , High value collectable Item in Mint condition. DETAILS: Two external pockets Spring metal "x - frame” All straps and buckles are great and very solid Main compartment and 2 outside pockets. Not a reproduction, 100% original item Never Used These are very rare and almost impossible to find new Vintage Produced in 1969 Category Individual Equipment Sub-Category Rucksacks and Packboards Date 1969 FSN 8 Natick Labs specifically designed the ARVN rucksack, or Indigenous Ranger Pack, for the South Vietnamese Army as a replacement for the M1945 Combat Field Pack. The US had furnished the ARVN with surplus stocks of the M1945 pack early in the war, but it proved to be too small and too heavy. 1 Development began in 1963 when Natick Labs fabricated 250 rattan frame prototypes in Thailand.
