ART DECO at its best, on this beautiful celluloid compact / purse ! Clean lines highlighted very lightly with gold tone paint, and rows of green rhinestones join to adorn the top of the this black celluloid compact / purse...circa 1920s. Measures 1 & ¾" at the top and expands to 2 & ½" at the bottom, is 4 & 1/4'" tall and is 5/8" thick. The black ribbon carrying handle is edged with light green, is attached through the metal bale that is at the top of the opener; there is also a metal slide on the ribbon carrying handle...same color of metal at the closure mechanism. Open by turning the metal oval handle, which then slides from the front through the bale toward the back, to reveal the interior of the compact / purse. The inside has a mirror inside what is the back of the purse body, shaped like the purse, case glued and set into a dark orange-brown tubular plastic frame. The base, which would be the interior of the purse front, has two round gold-tone metal compact cases set into the molded cut outs. The cases both have pretty outward radiating engine turned designs on the lids. Both cases open and close securely, straight & tightly...a powder puff is still in place...the cases are otherwise empty of powder & rouge contents & fit into the case precisely & solidly. The gold-tone / brass colored closure & slide could do with some cleaning. read more
