You are bidding on a very unusual artifact from WW1. This is a cut off tip of a wood propeller from a airplane made by the Dayton Wright airplane Co. in Dayton, Ohio. I believe this is the Wright Bros.from Dayton.The model # is DH4,serial#12237,U.S.#32295.This metal tag must have came off the airpplane and nailed to this piece.T is also a clock or gage made by Waltham.On the reverse t is a card that reads"This propeller was salvaged from a Liberty plane at Toul,France1918.Fred Hartman lost his life in this accident.Hartman drove a dog team from Canada to ST.Paul, Minn.in1917 for the winter Carnival.Photo below this describes Fred Hartman as being from Brookline Mass,and was in the Winter Carnival Race. Also was found is two spent cartridges with rolled up notes stating the following describing this cartridge as being the last shot fired over Hartmans grave. The other paper memorializes Lt. Thomas Tiromski in the same way. Signed by Cpl.R.A.Merrill.The propeller section is 10"wide and 11 1/2" tall.Sold as is.
