Not completely over the edge but well used: this is a leather U.S. Cavalry Bridle / Headstall with a single copper Rosette, original buckles, and a # 3 M1909 Cub bit which was used until 1943. The Bridle has intact cheek straps, on is marked G and the other is marked S, presuably for "General Supply". They are in nice shape. The stitching is good and the lower large rectangular buckles are original. The brow band is intact and although the leather is soft, it's not dry rotted or torn. The Crown Piece, the wide strap at the top has been cut on the ends. As the crown piece divides in two and attached to the cheek piece buckles, so a strap on each side is gone. These straps attach via mis-matched buckles. This is the juncture w the Rosettes normally sit and so unfortunatly one Rosette is missing. The remaining Rosette has the offset buckle. It's generally flat and quite thick with the Great Seal, of the Eagle and Shield raised on the face of it. This Rosette is very crisp in detail with patina, but little to no wear. If this were a coin I'd give it a top grading. The brow band at one time sat the other way, because right now the Rosette is upside down. The buckles will have to be undone and the piece flipped around to the other side so it sits in the correct position. The Nickle Steel Curb bit is a number 3 size (so marked) which read more
