"Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney" An original USAAF " 487th Fighter Squadron " A-2 flying jacket ' Lil Bastard ' squadron patch from World War II It is genuine and from the very first lot of patches handed out in July 1944 to pilots with the 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group! The 487th Fighter Squadron "Meyer's Maulers" is considered by many aviation historians to have been the hottest fighter squadron in the ETO during World War II. It was named after its commanding officer LtCol John C. Meyer, a high-ranking forward thinking ace with 24 air-to-air victorys. T he novel character depicted on its patch, a most determined and pugnacious-looking little fighter carrying a riding crop in one hand and machine gun in the other, was called ' Lil Bastard .' The 352nd Fighter Group became known as the " Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney " because when the unit was first formed at RAF Bodney Air Base, England, the nose section on all its P-51 Mustangs was painted blue. We have included extra close-up pictures of the front and back to help you examine its construction even better since it is significant that this is one of the 'first lot' of squadron patches given to pilots with the squadron while stationed at Bodney during the month of July 1944. On this we are absolutely certain; tfore, it is quite rare and might well be priceless. read more
