Up for auction is an USMC China Marine Pre-WWII era NCO sword with scabbard. This is a German made sword from the 1920s or 1930s era and sold by the large uniform and equipment supplier N.S. Meyer in New York. The approx 27 7/8” blade is marked at the ricasso “N.S. Meyer…” and brass “Proved” disc on the opposite side. The blade is etched “UNITED STATES MARINES” and has stand of arms, etc. on both sides. “GERMANY” is stamped under the NS Meyer mark above the ricasso washer. The blade spine also is engraved. Overall approx length of the sword without the scabbard is 33 1/4”. The brass has a pleasing patina showing no cleaning. The grip leather has some minor scuff marks and has a small piece missing on the one side under the pommel. The twisted wire is complete. The scabbard is steel covered with black leather having some minor scuff marks complete with brass throat and drag. The blade appears to have no damage or sign of sharpening. The etching is bright and shows no signs of being cleaned or buffed. The hilt is tight to the blade. There is a rack # 28 stamped on the throat of the scabbard and the underside of guard.
