A 1950's USMC OFFICERS Gabardine Field Tunic often referred to as the Vandegrift Style after General A. A. Vandegrift. This style of short service dress tunic was based on the British / Australian Battle Dress which was issued to the USMC in Australia during WWII. The equivalent US army version was the "Ike" jacket, Material is a high quality tightly woven material in USMC Green. Correct light brown closure buttons - all intact. USMC buttons elsewhere. The tunic has naval wings and ribbons, but I'm not sure if these are original to the tunic. The clutch back pilot wings are marked G-22-N (post WWII), the ribbons are pin back. Ribbons are the early large type and are top left Navy Cross, Silver star, DFC. Air Medal, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal & Navy Occupation Medal. The collar globe and anchor are both clutch back and are unlikely to be original. The major rank are also clutch back. The only label is marked B.W. WHITE (photo 9). I'm not sure if this this the name of the owner or the manufacturer - for the record I have seen reference to a Lt B.W. White USMC on a uniform dated 1945, but he was not a pilot! Silk type material lining & waist tab adjustment. No size indicated - the tunic is approximately a 40 chest, and the outside sleeve measurement is 25 inches. Total length read more
