Van Briggle Early Indian Heads Lamp Circa 1920's Original Van Briggles Studio "Indian Heads" Lamp glazed in desirable Mulberry glaze, sandy colored bottom, buff, incised with logo and "VAN BRIGGLE COLO. SPGS.". Pottery stands approximately 11" high; 24.75" high including brass base and finial. In excellent, undamaged condition. No cracks, hairlines, chips, or repair. Includes original cast iron finial. I have removed the original chord (see photo)...it was frayed and unsafe to use. I will ship disassembled. Total weight, unpacked: 67 oz (4 lbs 3 oz) Shipping includes Insurance. Research suggests this was designed by Ambrose Schlegel in 1927. The model was produced by Van Briggle studios for the purpose of a lamp base until about 1939. It was modeled originally for the purpose of a lamp base and many of these pieces were sold from 1927 to 1939. This model and mulberry glaze dates to the 1920's. Evidence suggests this base was made as a vase and soon after modified to be used as a lamp base (Hole centered on bottom of vase, not side. Fancy brass base and brass cover. Finial is outstanding cast iron or bronze and possibly predates vase production. Lamp would look fabulous with a period shade and complement an arts and crafts or mission style interior.
