HUGE VDG with a 16 inch discharge sp YOU WILL NOT FIND VDG'S THIS SIZE ANYW ELSE!!!!! This VDG will not be ready to ship until April 27th Acrylic base is a 25 dollar upgrade INTERNATIONAL ORDERS MUST USE PAYPAL 4% FEE (international shipping 65-100 dollars) This is a home grown creation that has accumulated 200$ in parts and about 2 weeks of building time. This particular VDG can discharge up to a 12-18" spark depending upon humidity level and how clean one keeps the belt and rollers. If you have it adjusted to its optimal settings, turn out the lights and grab the side of the tower about 8 inches down from the dome and you will see a 5 inch wide, 8 inch long rippling stream of electrons following to your hand. If you want to be creative, take off the dome w you will see and hear the hiss of electrons discharging in blue streams to the copper combs. My personal favorite, grab a pair of scissors and hold them about 2 feet away and watch the tips glow blue from the piecing electric field or just drop the scissors and allow yourself to get zapped with about 500,000 volts! Without a doubt, this is one of the largest and most powerful VDG's you will find on the market. These VDG's are each hand built by myself, a physics teacher fueled by a passion initiated from high education supply prices and poor equipment. After researching for about 8 months and testing numerous materials, I promise that I have found the ultimate triboelectic series combination and unfortunately these materials are not listed in the series. Furthermore, I have incorporated bearings in the design along with subtle reinforcements that the education companies have neglected. A: These operate at very low currents as apposed to Tesla coils that are indisputably lethal. VDG's allow you to physically touch and manipulate electricity, w Tesla Coils offer a beautiful display, however produce unforgiving currents. Q: Does the discharge arc hurt. A: The 16 inch VDG's operate so strong they will produce a continuous plasma stream at a few inches away that only tickle, however the larger 15-22 inch sparks can leave small welts. Shocks to the head may lead one to teach physics later in life. As for the 20-22 inch VDGs, they are powerful enough to make your fingers glow blue in a dark room and pass 10 inch arcs to a friend, but never the less such voltages must be respected. Q: What is the difference between a Tesla Coil and a VDG? A: Both will produce very high voltages, however the Tesla Coils produce currents that are thousands of times stronger. Once again, VDGs are designed for hands on applications that truly allow one to physically interact with the electricity without jeopardizing their safety. Tesla Coils demands absolute respect and should never be operated without an adult present. In short, coils are superb for show while generators create an environment to open the experimenters mind. Q: Does the size of the generator matter. A: YES!!! The bigger the better!!! I have found from previous experience that small generator only produce enough current to motivate me to place it back in the box. Dont waste your money on the very small VDGs.
