Offering rare vanilla clay Vintage Turpentine Pots in individual auctions. They are being offered singularly because of the shipping risks. I encourage N. FL, S. GA, S AL bidders to consider cash payment with 'local pickup' if multiple pots are desired and wholesale might be considered.North Florida turpentine cup used in Franklin/Liberty County in the early 20th Century; salvaged from the former estate of C. C. Land. Offering a few more in upcoming auctions.Wonderful primitive pot to give the modern garden a primitive flair. Collectible from the old 'Naval Stores Industry' which emerged in the south as an economic base with which to rebuild the southern economy after the Civil War. The vanilla clay is more rare than the usual red; the rounded bottom cup is most unusual. It measures 6.5" tall and 5.5" in the top diamenter. A Naval Stores Industry collector told me that this was made in Alabama. Will welcome any additional feedback on the source of these as opposed to the ribbed cups.The southern turpentine industry harvests the sap from longleaf pines where it was captured into these cups. The use of clay turpentine cups was introduced by Dr. Charles Herty in 1902-3; which enabled the turpentining process to be alot less invasive to the tree; which was destined toward lumber within 5 years.
