Previously, I was charging a flat rate fee of $0.50 per lot to cover my shipping and packaging costs, which are $0.50-$0.54 per lot, on average. But, the flat rate tended to become disproportionate to a sum of many cheap lots purchased all at once. In other words, if a buyer purchased many lots at once, the resulting shipping costs tended to be out of proportion with the cost of the lots. To better compensate for this, I have developed a "sliding scale" of percentages which takes into account my original start price rate of 20% of catalog value, plus a little extra to cover shipping and packaging costs. This extra varies according to a series of price brackets of catalog value, and I have sought to keep the resulting sum proportional to the catalog value. Ultimately, when compared to the original start price 20% of catalog value plus $0.50 shipping per lot, this "sliding scale" is generally cheaper when lots have a catalog value of less than $5.00. However, for lots with higher catalog value, the "sliding scale" is a little more expensive than the original start price of 20% of CV plus $0.50. Nevertheless, with the start price now including shipping, printing and packaging costs, there should be no surprises when you receive the invoice. And, you will not need to do any other math to anticipate what the total price will be when you bid or purchase multiple lots.
