Strong beautiful color heightened with gum arabic, especially desireable asa half the subjects are Napoleonic. I refer you to Glasser's work on French prints for a fuller description (You can also try Sauzey). doctorfatty confesses that he is offering this print for ruinously little in comparison for what he paid for it and for what it is worth. Stone lithograph, hand colored. Signed on the stone. Paris, Lemercier. 12.25" X 16.25". Clear vibrant colors. "Costumes" is considered to be his "Primus Opus" as it tracks french uniforms by type of unit from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Vernier walked away from the military genre in the 1860's and pursued a successful "mainstream" art career until his death in the 1880's.
