Vernon Kilns was founded in July of 1931 after Faye G. Bennison purchased Poxon China Company in Vernon California which is now part of Los Angeles. The 1933 Long Beach earthquake and 2 subsequent fires almost brought an end to Vernon Potteries but Bennison decided to rebuild and flourished during a time when imports were not available. When imports hit the market in the late 50's, the company could not compete and sold its holding to Metlox. Metlox sold dinnerware, art pottery, figurines and other popular lines. Metlox eventually went out of business in the 1970's. This company is rich in both Los Angeles and California history. Perfect for the collector!
