VERONICA LAKE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WITCH WHO EVER CAST A SPELL...JUST ASK FREDRIC MARCH! An excellant looking ORIGINAL LOBBY CARD from the 1942 Romance Comedy from United Artists..."I Married a Witch". Beautiful actress Veronica Lake is in her prime playing the character of Jennifer...a witch from the 1670's who, along with her father Daniel played by Cecil Kellaway are both burned to death by the Puritans...their two souls are being held by the roots of the tree used to do the deed. In revenge Jennifer has placed a curse on the family present and future of the leader of the Puritan cause Jonathan Wooley played by Fredric March. The curse against the men of the family tree is that they all will be miserable in love always to love and marry the wrong woman! And so it goes throughout the ages as the Wooley men are all doomed to this existance. Well, here comes the 20th century and the tree that had been holding Daniel and Jennifer's spirits for hundreds of yearsgets hit by lightning which releases them in a vapor form. They go along to check out their handy work visiting the home of the present line of the Wooley clan...Wallace. He is about to marry the wrong woman again named Estelle Masterson [Susan Hayworth] and is also running for term in politics. Jennifer is quietly smitten and tells father she wants a mortal body to check things out. Dying by fire she must be re-born by fire so as Wallace Wooley and Estelle are traveling back to her home an empty high-rise building has caught on fire burning from the top floor downward. Wooley stops the car and feels he hears a woman's voice in amongst the flames. He finds Jennifer re-born as an adult who is quite naked. He gives her his coat and as the building comes down around them rushes out the front door Jennifer in his arms. She's put into an ambulance and Wooley and company is back on their way. Wooley's best friend here is Dr.Dudley White [Robert Benchley] and in between drinks tells him he's a shoe-in to win his election after his front page write-up. Meanwhile Jennifer is not satisfied with "Wally's" misery...she wants to taunt him to mak his life worse.She concocts a potion that when he drinks it will make him fall madly in love with her so she can do her worst. Fate steps in when she faints and is given the drink herself to calm her down...now she loves him and will do what she has to do to make her Wally happy. Daniel will have none of this and takes mortal form by another fire to straighten out his daughter but his thrust for a bit of libation ends up being his own downfall...in a nice way! Other players helping out are such names as Elizabeth Patterson who is the Wooley family matriarch who makes great waffels! Robert Warwick, Billy Bevans and look quick and you'll see as the family party's bartender Chester Conklin.Paramount Pictures created the film but, along with a few other projects, were sold to other distributors such as United Artists. A very enjoyable film that has been rescued by TCM. It makes it into their schedule a couple times a year. This is an ORIGINAL LOBBY CARD from the 1942 initial release of this Romance Comedy. It measures a full 11 X 14 inches and it shows Veronica Lake seated in a comfortable chair with an affectonate black cat in her lap. Fredric March is pleading with her to be a good girl [and leave!].T his piece is in a good condition. There is some general wear present to this piece.Some light soiling is present around the white border areas.There is a tear along the left side border edge center that, a long time ago, was repaired front and back with scotch tape.Corners are sharp.The back is clean except for the scotch tape.The color here is fine and the image of Veronica Lake is intriguing! I list this very scarce piece for those who wish to add a great piece of Veronica Lake film memorabilia to their collection. If it sells that's fine if not it goes back onto my restoration list.
