Up for auction is a nice round lidded woven splint ash Indian sewing basket. Because no sweetgrass was used, this old basket is from one of the Great Lakes tribes. This particular example is a deep basket with a double row of interspaced twists on the side, creating a "windowpane" pattern. These baskets were made to sell to tourists early in the past century, and this one was designed to hold a tourist lady's sewing notions. Be sure to check out the beautiful deep color this basket has. This old Indian basket makes an attractive display piece. The basket is a nice medium size, perfect for display, measuring 7" in diameter and 5½" tall. This vintage basket is in near-perfect condition. Every single one of the decorations is intact and unbroken. I've examined it carefully and the only possible exception is one missing weave on the body of the basket. The rims, the base, everything else is in perfect shape. It's a terrific example of early 20th century Great Lakes basket making. It's a beauty! I accept Paypal, cashiers checks, money orders, and personal checks, although the shipping on an item will be delayed for the check to clear if a personal check is used. I will be happy to provide discounted shipping for multiple purchases. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions, and please take a look at my other auctions
