Very hard to find vintage metal ashtray from the most famous French Line ship, the Normandie. This piece is rarely available for sale. The last one I am aware of sold in 1999 for over $300 by "Shipshape", a reputable company selling steamship memorabelia. I guarantee you will be impressed with this piece. One of the largest and most famous ships of all time, the Normandie was the world's largest ship when launched and became the fastest ship in the world when it sailed on it's maiden voyage from Le Havre to New York in 1935. This ashtray, a great example of the art deco style of the 1930s, is engraved by hand in the sky area above the bow "Le Havre", the name of the largest and most famous French Port of all time. As you would expect in an authentic piece, the legend in French " Le Paquebot Normandie" (The Steamship Normandie) is shown above the ship as well as the name "Normandie" on the ship's bow. This original ashtray was purchased on board the Normandie in the late 1930's before it was taken over by the US Government to serve as a troop ship during WW ll. This ashtray comes from my personal collection, purchased in auction years ago, and is in great condition, well above average for this piece. It is an absolutely superb display piece. It measures approx. 7" x 4". Your satisfaction is guaranteed! PAYPAL CASH PAYMENT ACCEPTED read more
