If you are looking for that nearly one-of-a-kind, exceedingly rare American Art Pottery piece for your collection, then stop right This is one art pottery vase you need to see... Offered for a 7-Day, NO RESERVE auction is this "Very Rare", fully signed swollen cylinder vase by The Hampshire Pottery Company of Keene, NH, circa 1904-1907. This particular vase is executed in a yellow Vellum "experimental" glaze with a very folksy slip design of flowers, leaves and stems on one side. If you've seen much Hampshire over the years, a couple of items should surprise you. First, Hampshire never widely produced any art pottery in this type of Vellum glaze. After a great deal of research and discussions with art pottery collectors (especially Hampshire Pottery collectors), I could only locate ONE other like this (without the experimental glaze notations I believe) that was in a personal collection of over 250 Hampshire Pottery pieces. Even David Rago had NEVER seen one before, and he felt like this particular design and glaze application never made it off the production floor. Secondly, the slip design is just as rare, and I have never come across another piece of Hampshire Pottery with a slip design decoration. And the combination of these two rarities, plus an initial in black ink (presumably the slip design artist) makes this example of Hampshire Pottery just about as rare as they get in terms of glaze, design, form and markings. If you like your pottery "rare", then dinner is served... This fully signed, experimental glaze Hampshire Pottery vase stands a full 7.5" tall, and is appx. 4.25" wide at its widest point. The closed rim, rolled edge top opening is 2 & 5/8" in diameter while the white glaze, footed bottom is just a tad over 3 & 1/8" in diameter. As noted, this remarkable piece of experimental Hampshire Pottery is in MINT Original Condition . T are absolutely NO chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs and/or retouches on this piece whatsoever. It is a true "museum quality" piece. Just a couple of other unusual items of note... While this form is essentially a "molded" piece, the hand-thrown ridges can clearly be seen on the glazed interior of the vase. The shape is not completely round, but slightly more oval in shape than round presumably to give the artist more of a flatter surface on which to apply the slip design. Lastly, this vase feels more like porcelain than pottery in terms of weight. Hampshire Pottery can have a tendency to be on the heavy side, but this particular piece feels almost "weightless" in comparison. This is truly a fascinating example of Hampshire Pottery experimentation, the likes of which you may never see again. And it can be yours just by bidding on this NO RESERVE auction...How simple is that???? I accept money orders, personal checks (usually 2-4 business days) and PayPal (up to 7 business days depending on how you pay through PayPal), but will wait for checks or PayPal to fully clear my bank before packing and shipping out any merchandise. The winning bidder will be responsible for shipping and full insurance through the USPS's Priority Mail Service with Delivery Confirmation added. Finally, this gorgeous and extremely rare piece of Hampshire Pottery will be carefully wrapped and packaged for maximum protection.
