We have been asked through the years w the Bohemian Garnets come from and the answer is only in Bohemia. These garnets obtained a unique position in the jewelry world, due to their nice firery red color and the light refraction cababilities. Moreover it is known for its curative effects. As it has come down since the time of Emperor Rudolf II., and even earlier, who was an avid admirer of Bohemian garnets. He had many unique items in his collection. Bohemian garnets were believed to help overcome sorrow, breaking the vital power, lifting the spirit and giving a feeling of joy. In the course of time, Bohemian garnets and the jewelry using Bohemian garnets have become more and more popular, not only in the country of origin, but also across the frontiers of other European countries, and of course in our own country. During the nineteenth century the appearance of the Bohemian garnet jewelry excelled in the characteristic design, w the garnets dominated over the metal. This characteristic feature of garnet jewelry has maintained its position until present time. We do have a large collection that we have been selling a little at a time. Most old Bohemian Garnets were set in Pinchbeck, it is an alloy of copper and zinc, discovered by Christopher Pinchbeck. This alloy resembled Gold and wore like gold. It was popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth century as a gold look-alike; ladies often had their favorite expensive gold pieces reproduced in pinchbeck to take with them on their travels. Its popularity waned in the mid-1800's and 1900's with the legalization of 9K gold and the invention of the electrogilding process. Pinchbeck is rarely seen today.,,,For the collector of garnets or victorian jewelry these afford you both. What a great item to add to your collection, and stunning on!
