It has been carefully inspected, cleaned, rebuilt, aligned, and tested by me, Walt Sommers, owner of Gettysburg Antique Phonographs. The black oxide finish on the rear casting is very good with wear that is typical to find on an original part. I am including 300 brand new American made needles (100 Loud, 100 Medium, and 100 Soft) for your enjoyment. I guarantee your satisfaction with the quality and performance of this part. Please take your time and study the information and pictures presented here and feel free to contact me.This reproducer was carefully disassembled and then the front casting and all hardware components were ultrasonically cleaned. The rear casting was cleaned by hand. I do not ultrasonically clean the rear (black) casting because doing so will damage the painted lettering on the front. All of the nickel plating was hand buffed and never exposed to to a wire brush.The original mica diaphragm has been clean and reinstalled and it works perfectly. The balance springs have been replaced because the originals were broken. New rubber diaphragm gaskets and have been installed to replace the old hardened originals. Beeswax was applied to the needle bar/diaphragm connection as described in a Victor Talking Machine Company patent. The thumbscrew is original and is in perfect working order. During alignment of the reproducer the needle arm screws were adjusted for proper tension of the balance springs and optimum centering of the arm. This is necessary so that the reproducer has the best possible volume and optimum fidelity.This reproducer sounds great and I trust you will be delighted with it. It is the perfect reproducer for your Victor Talking machine or almost any floor or table model Victrola. If you have an old reproducer that buzzes like an angry hornet, has old gaskets, a cracked diaphragm, a broken thumb screw, or broken balance springs then you need me to rebuild or repair it, or, trade it in on this one! All work is guaranteed for one full year.People frequently ask me whether they should replace their existing reproducer with one that I am selling. My preference as a collector is to keep original machines and their components together as much as possible. I recommend that advice to everyone. However, depending on how badly damaged your reproducer is it might be best to replace it. As an example, compare the price of replacing your reproducer with the cost of me rebuilding it for you. Since I only charge $24 for a typical rebuild which includes complete disassembly, cleaning, polishing, new diaphragm gaskets, a diaphragm if it is required, and ba`lance springs if they are needed, it may not make sense to replace the one you have. But if your reproducer is severely rusted or damaged with broken screws, or it is so badly oxidized that it requires new nickel plating, then it will cost more to repair it than it would to replace it with one I have listed for sale. In a case like that I will usually accept an old reproducer as a trade-in.The Victor No.2, Exhibition and No.4 can be used in the place of each other. They are suitable for most Victor Talking Machines and Victrolas with the exception of the Orthophonics. They can also be used with many other brands of phonographs. This reproducer would be the perfect touch for your VV-IV, VI, VIII, IX, X, XI, XIV, XVI, XVII, XVIII, VTLA and so on.
