FINE VICTORIAN BEADWORK & TAPESTRY BANNER circa 1870 Description FINE VICTORIAN BEADWORK & TAPESTRY BANNER - circa 1870 This delightful ANTIQUE VICTORIAN BEADWORK AND TAPESTRY BANNER dates from circa 1870. It measures approximately 20 inches (51 cm) in length and approximately 16 inches (41 cm) in width. The BANNER is worked in BEADWORK and TENT STITCH in WOOL. The central motif is a spray of ROSES worked in glass beads in shades of turquoise, grey, white, cream and brown and highlighted with metal beads in gold and silver colours. This spray of flowers is set against a coral-coloured tapestry ground. The shield-shaped border of floral sprays is worked in coloured glass and metal beads. The BANNER is finished with a deep red tent stitch border and edge with cord and a silk fringe. The back of the banner is covered with striped watered silk which has worn. The silk fringe is very delicate and has general wear (please see photographs). There are a few missing tapestry stitches in the red border and I can count approximately 32 missing beads overall but I might have missed some so I will say there are less than 50 missing beads. A beautiful ANTIQUE BEADWORK BANNER. If you have any questions please ask.
