VICTORIAN EBONY BRASS TRAVEL CASE BOX PERFUME BOTTLES 19TH C, MIRROR, HIDDEN JEWELRY DRAWER, INLAID NAME TAG is a 150 plus year old Victorian travel set...the wood appears to be a rare exotic macassar ebony wood with beautiful figures all the way around. Besides the brass inset name tag, t is plenty of inlaid brass (a few small pieces are missing) as well as a brass rope like edge around the top. Inside, is a beautifully fitted interior full of great silverplate covered and glass covered jars. T is even a small ink jar! In the rear of the top is a small button which will release the "hidden" drawer in the front which became a perfect place for valuables. T is abundance of photos to capture all of the features of this great case! The finish of this wood is original and the ebony wood itself is remarkable! Another more common name for macassar ebony is coromandel. The inset brass tag on the top reads"Margaret HedleyCoxlodgeNewcastle"which refers to Newcastle upon Tyne in England. We have located several Margaret Hedleys in Great Britian....and all of them are located in the same general area of Coxlodge or Newcastle...mostly in the Northumberland area.
