One flash glance of this silver black enameled bracelet and you can't help but immediately think of ART DECO. Yes, the Art Deco Period did produce a multitude of STARS!!! But the period was also influenced by many eras preceding it.... This FINE handcrafted piece is an example of such...preceding the Art Deco by 70 years . Made in the "Zetterland" or "Sudetenland" ....more precisely the edge land between Bohemia and Austria in a town known as Cheb, Bohemia (now Czech Republic) in the late 1860's , it must have been quite the talk of the town....as it was designed for a rather wealthy aristocratic lady of that area during the last years of the decade of the 1860's. Hallmarks within the inside of the bracelet and on the upper and underside of the tongue of clasp 1) Lion with head to left, star and "4"- denoting it from the Austrian Hungarian Empire, silver content 750+, and from the Austrian providence between 1866-1868 (see assay photos) Entire bracelet is of a fine tubular structure or 5/8" in width and 1/8+" in depth. The bracelet measures 6 1/2(-)" in inside width and hinges half way round. The tongue and groove connection is fully hallmarked and attaches securely via the push-in clasp. When tongue is placed in its groove, one cannot notice the connection...as it is finely seamed with an intricate engraved design....most unusual. read more
