c1880 Victorian porcelain fairing trinket box. Antique fairing boxes were produced mostly in Germany during the late 1800s and were given away as prizes, or sold at traveling fairs throughout Europe. These boxes are very collectible today, and have a wonderful whimsical look, and a great story to tell. This fairing box is an oval oblong shape with figural angel griffins at each end. The lid has a young girl as the finial, she's holding some fruit. The overall condition is very good, t is some wear to the gilt on the box, which is very common with most fairing boxes as the gilt comes off with time after handling. T is also a small hairline on the back side of the bottom part of the box, this does not detract from the display. The box is marked with impressed numbers. The measurement of the box is 5" long by 4" tall. A fantastic early display! Please ask questions if you would like to clarify anything. Good Luck! Please take a look at my other listed antique items, I'm happy to combine shipping!
