Boxed Set of 6 Victorian Sterling Silver Albany Pattern Tea Spoons from Sheffield dated 1899 Each Antique Tea Spoon measures approximately 4 3 /8 inches or 1 12 mm in length from the top of its handle to the front rim of its bowl by just under 1/2 an inch or 1 2 mm across the width of its upper handle from side to side and it is just over 7/8 of an inch or 2 4 mm across the widest part of its bowl. The presentation case or box measures approximately 6 3 /8 inches or 1 63 mm across its length from side to side by 6 5 /8 inches or 1 67 mm across its width from the hinges to the front catch and it stands 1 inch or 2 6 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. All 6 tea spoons are made from sterling silver and they have delightful raised relief decorated Albany pattern or shaped handles on standard oval shaped bowls, the tea spoons have Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the set is complete with hinged presentation case or box that has a gilt metal catch on the front all as photographed below, the back of each tea spoons bowl has been impressed with a matching full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, Crown - Lion Passant - stylized G - JD over WD The Crown is the mark of the Sheffield assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver, the stylized letter G is the date letter for 1899 and JD over WD is the Sheffield silversmith or makers mark of John & William Deakin of James Deakin & Sons Ltd . The condition is used and Excellent for their age. The tea spoons have No Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the definition and decoration is very crisp, the silver hallmarks are slightly rubbed or worn in places but still legible, the presentation case opens and closes tightly with ease although as this set of tea spoons is a used antique the outer body of the case or box has some minor scuffs and stains and some of the spoons handles are ever so slightly bent but this does not affect their use, the set has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this boxed set of antique tea spoons can still be used today and that this set would make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that the spoons look fantastic considering that they are over 110 years old.
