Vietnam era Aviator’s Helmet #FSN This item was donated to the Oregon Air & Space Museum, Eugene, OR, and since it duplicates other helmets already in the museum’s collection, it has been deemed ‘surplus’, and is therefor being offered for sale.The only ID on the helmet are the two metal tags attached to the oxygen mask bayonet attachment brackets at each cheek... the above FSN number and “The General Tire” on one, and the same number and “Columbus Milpar & MFG. CO., INC” and “Part No. 60C4459” on the other; and finally, a “U-172/U” swiveling military microphone female jack just below the left chin strap attachment point. A skeletal skull decal (depicting a band-aid over a crack in the skull) is on the right panel of the recessed goggles panel, and on the left panel, some black tape in an enigmatic design (one piece of which actually covers a partial crack in the fiberglass panel). The knob which allows the recessed goggles to be lowered or slid back into their recess, is present and operates smoothly. Orange and gray reflective tape and the numerals 1 and 9 decorate the back of the helmet. A par of padded avionic receivers are inside the helmet, and the cord connecting both to the microphone jack is still in place. The chin strap and cushion is present, and the snap is functional.
