WE ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT VILLEROY & BOCH METTLACH RUSSIAN FAIRY TALES ~THE SNOW MAIDEN ~ AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL LIMITED EDITION STEIN MADE IN GERMANY IN EXCELLENT/MINT CONDITION BASED ON THE ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART BY THE RUSSIAN MASTER BORIS ZVORYKIN This unique lidded stein, #1526, depicts three different scenes from the Russian Fairy Tale, The Snow Maiden, encircling the body. They are: Snegurochka and Lel the Shepherd Boy, Snegurochka, and Snegurochka at the Court of Tsar Berendei. The porcelain inlay in the pewter-rimmed lid repeats the main central scene in the body, Snegurochka. It measures 7" to lid, 8.25" to thumblift and 4.25" at the base. The thumblift is the Mettlach Abbey. There is hand-applied 24 karat gold around the base. The originals of the scenes shown on this Mettach stein are housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art on New York. The bottom of the base has the Mettlach Abbey trademark and "VILLEROY & BOCH SEIT 174B, METTLACH, GES GESCH, MADE IN GERMANY #1526" incised. The distinctive glaze, sharp images and colors make this an outstanding, beautiful stein. It is in excellent/mint condition and comes with the Stein/Artist Story Booklet. No box.
