The three dimensional aspect of this beautiful brooch is really difficult to capture in pictures! The large, deeply grooved, frosted coral - melon colored glass stone domes up , so that one is tempted to take a bite of its succulent illusion! This lovely treasure is signed by the maker, in an oval cartouche on back, reading ' Bijou Cascio', .. this firm was located in Italy , having been founded by Gaetano Cascio. His creations were presented in America by such stores as Lord & Taylor, Bonwit Teller, Bloomingdales , and such. This flawless brooch is 1 1/2" in length, and 1 1/8" wide at center. The mesmerizing , ribbed stone domes up over 1/4", and is set in an open back setting, for maximum light transference. The metal is a rich gold in color, unmarked for its gold content, if any. The outer rim is set with beautiful, numerous, small round sparkling white stones, 28 in all . None are missing, damaged or darkened. Between the rows of crystals are gold ribbed walls, whose ribbing accents the design of the mysterious frosted melon stone, all glowing and luminous in the center. The brooch weighs a respectable 19.7 grams. The back is equipped with a sturdy hinged pin back, and roll over safety clasp, both working fine.
