Nice old fully hand forged bolstered chef knife 12.25" long blade, 2 3/8" wide at heel and 17 5/8" overall. This knife is marked only "2" on blade but looks very much like the knives made for the military by Lamson, CLyde and Ontario in profile, it very well could be by one of those makers but the similarity ends at the shape, this knife is very light and has a much more precise finish to the blade grinding and polishing as well as a more finished handle than the average quartermasters chef knife. Beech handle is in great shape, no damage hairlines or much wear at all, it is the most comfortable handle of all the GI type chef knives I have seen. The tang tapers down to less than the thickness of a dime and the balance is spot on. Blade is very slightly flexible, much less so than you would think looking at the thickness of the blade, this is a knife you could use for hours on end with out strain. The blade has a grey to dark grey patina that suggests use and the blade is slightly dulled, it has never been re-ground and is free from pits with only one or two incidental light light scratches. T is one thing that should be mentioned the tip is slightly docked as if it was dropped and the last 1/64 broke off, no bend. I found it with old dry masking tape on the edge with another 12" chef knife dated 1953 that I will be listing shortly. read more
