Vintage 1900's Japanese rich, soft, jet black silk crepe handpainted Tomesode (most formal kimono) with 5 monsuki (high class family crests). The hemline is stuffed with silk batting, indicative of the early kimono. The delicately painted Art Nouveau wave scene is done in light blue, french blue and soft gray with white crests on the waves. The whole pattern is accented with gold lines. This elegent, silk Tomesode kimono is in vintage mint, wearable condition. The upper lining looks to have been replaced with new white silk lining and the bottom lining is the same black kimono silk crepe with a little more handpainted wave decoration. This less gaudy pattern was tradtionally worn by married women. The kimono measures 24 inches across the back and 50 inches from sleeve edge to sleeve edge. The length from the shoulder to hemline is 58 inches. This is a good med-large size for traditonal Japanese kimono.
