Lovers of antique quilts will catch their breathwhen they see this quilt; I know I did-! Like its companion currently runningon ebay I'm offering it for auction for a lady who is looking to downsize her personal collection of vintage quilts that have been in her family since she can remember. This lady grew up in Jacksonville, AL w her family ran a grocery in the 1930s. She remembers these quilts as a girl being in the family home, but has no idea if they were made by a family member or perhaps taken as barter for groceries during hard times. This particular quilt in the Hummingbird or four-point star pattern seems never to have been used; its colors and condition are as bright and pristine as the day it was finished! Measures a generous 72" x 90". Truly a find, in hard-to-find condition from a non-smoking, pet-free environment. Beautifully machine-pieced and painstakingly hand quilted entirely of cottons in a delightful mix of prints and beautiful 1930s-era solids with no damage of any kind. The quilters use of color puts me in mind of Spring, Easter and Mother's Day, all rolled into one! Overall hand quilting is in the popular shell or Baptist fan pattern; I've included a photo of the lovely lavender back so you can better appreciate how nice it looks. Outer edge is finished by bringing the back to the front and carefully hand-stitching read more
