Pair of Hubley "Pirate" Flintlock Cap Pistol No. 265Hubley Mfg., Lancaster, PA. Diecast/cast iron (Best/Logan, P16.1). Approx. 9-3/8” long. Circa 1939-50.This classic side-by-side flintlock style cap gun is a transitional piece with a heavy die-cast frame and cast iron double hammers & trigger (so it bridges the period between prewar cast iron guns and postwar die-cast). Designed in the mid-1930s, it saw brisk prewar sales in the late 30s but production was stopped by the war-time metal shortages. It was successfully reissued in the postwar years with production ending about 1950. A single mammoth cap (or single cap torn off a roll) can be loaded in each pan. Hammers are separately cocked and can be fired one at a time by the single trigger (making this a single action pistol).This gun is in very good condition and working well. Both hammers cock and fire separately, each with a strong hammer fall. This gun has been fired and shows minor surface rust and flash marks/cap wear around the hammers and cap pans. The nickel finish is clean with no corrosion or pitting. The rivet on the left hammer shows some light surface rust. The original white plastic grips are clean with no cracks or breaks with only very slight separation at the top (see photos) but none of the excessive warping commonly found on these guns.
