This is a darling little 8" composition doll created by the DollCraft Novelty Co of New York , distributed by Joy Doll Products Co. These dolls were advertised and sold at the 1939 World Fair and in local stores. There are 35 different costumes in this series. They represent different countries. They had hand tags with their name and country. Their costumes are stapled on. They have jointed head, arms and legs, mohair wigs, beautifully painted faces, molded Mary Jane shoes some painted ,others had shoes some had socks also. This is Sonja of Russia. She has black mohair with a( cossock style) black wool yarn fancy knit hat with a red glass pin. Her darling facial features; big chocolate brown eyes, long black lashes high arced brows, rosy cheeks and bright orange red lips are finely painted. Her outfit is a dark yellow long sleeve puff blouse with ruffled cuffs, rust colored vest and skirt trimmed in black silk bias tape with a rusty yellow, blue and pink patterned panel edged in yellow rickrack with a flowered bottom trim edged in orange bias tape, they are very colorful, beautiful and bright. She has ivory Pantaloon undergarment and black fuzzy cloth tie shoes with little silver star details. She does not have a original tag. Secured to her dress with a little silver pin, hand-written reads: I am Sonja of Russia. I see no crazing. read more
