NEW/OLD STOCK JAPANESE KANNA. This 70mm kanna is New/Old stock from the 1950s, it has never been used but the blade has been tapped out a bit and t is some rust pitting on one corner of the blade that I have taken photos of. The rust is not a problem but at some point in using it the sharpening cycle will meet up with the pitting and you will need to work through it unless it can be tapped out at the time. Its not really that bad but I did want to mention it. The blade is clearly marked KOREAKI and it is very handsome. I do not know who the blacksmith was. The box is marked KOREAKI KANNA TOROKU (registered). The sub blade is not marked in any way that I can see. This is a high quality blade with laminated soft steel as the base and high carbon steel as the cutting edge The white oak dai has a hame grain pattern or from side to side and it is 27cm long and 8.7cm wide by 3.5cm thick. This dai I would guess is from the 1950s and it is bone dry and quite flat. The dai will need conditioning and adjusting however and the buyer will need to do that themselves. The blade as it sits will slide down the blade chute to within about 1cm of the sole or over 3/4 of the way down. The dai is cut with the tsutsumi ledge that is typical of high end older dais. The kanna also comes with a vintage travel cloth bag and the original box. BIDDERS WITH read more
