Original "Wimpy" Wall Bank (Chalkware – 1954) Up for auction with NO RESERVE is this very collectible “Wimpy” Wall Bank . It is made of chalk and was produced in the 1950s. It measures 7 1/2” in height. It is in very good condition - having no chips, cracks or repairs. All the paint is original – w ith some light crazing and wear due to age (Please see photos below). Remember - this is chalkware and has the characteristics of such. It still has its original wire hanger on the back for hanging on the wall. T is a slot on top of Wimpy's hat for depositing coins. It is marked on the bottom with "#205" . In 1989 I bought a small collection of Popeye memorabilia in Springfield, Ohio. This was one of the many items. T were banks and string holders of several different Popeye characters (See the additional photos). The matching Popeye and Olive Oyl string holders listed for $425.00 each on page 521 of the 2007 "Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide" . I was told that the banks are rarer than the string holders. I t has hung in my smoke free home from time to time and also has been packed away off and on for nearly 15 years.
