Up for bids today is one of Singer's finest sewing machines ever made, the Singer Model 201, serial number AK679523, commissioned for manufacture on November 19, 1951 at Elizabethport, New Jersey. Despite being made in the centennial year, this machine does not have one of the special Singer centennial emblems on it. I purchased this machine at an estate sale and have completely gone through it to include a good cleaning, oiling, repair of minor problems and testing. While the decals on it are in good condition, the paint does have some defects common to vintage machines. Mainly the bed is 'leatd' or crinkled but t is no peeling or flaking nor do I think t will be. I was very careful about wiping down the outside so it could probably still stand a bit more detailed cleaning but all of the bright metal was removed and polished and new wiring was added to the foot control and a new power cord was added. So while this will not be a showpiece, it will be a great workhorse machine to someone looking for a great machine that will last for many years. The Singer 201 is one of the quietest straight stitch machines ever made and it is solid (and heavy) as a rock. Feel free to write and ask me as many questions as you like. I collect old machines and have had several 201 models in the past. All are still in operation in their new homes. You read more
