You are bidding on a 1954 red and black Zenith L520-R vacuum tube clock radio for parts or repair. IMHO this is one of the most attractive of the hundreds of plastic cabinet vacuum tube clock radios made by American manufacturers in the 1950's. The Zenith model L520-R plays off red, black, and metallic trim against each other to create a design that still looks clean and fresh, even today (see photos).This particular L520-R, serial number Y-631204, looks very good on the outside (see photos). There is a hairline crack in the Bakelite case extending from the back of the bottom towards the right side, but you won't see this unless you turn the radio upside down and look carefully. The crack seems stable. There are a few scuffs on the top and some areas of dirt in various crevices that can easily be cleaned out with a rag or Q-tips using a gentle solvent such as paint thinner. The knobs are all present and all original. A little bit of the original Zenith label showing tube placement is still attached to the bottom (last photo).This radio works, but has significant hum and distortion. The dial string is broken, so there is no easy way to tune the radio. When I examined the chassis I could see that some previous repairs had been made.
