When I set out to replace the American Flyer Frontiersman set that I received for Christmas in 1959, I looked for the closest-to-new set that I could find. I found that and more in this special commemorative gift set in absolutely beautiful condition. Unfortunately, I no longer have the room for all of my collector toys. Some of the larger pieces must go, including this rare AF set. is what an informed bidder needs to know about this set: 1959 was the Golden Anniversary year for American Flyer. The company promoted the event by distributing a number of complimentary gift sets clearly tagged "not for resale". This is one of those gift sets. The Golden Anniversary gift tag is included. (Please see photos.) The boxed set is complete, including track lock-on, AF smoke ampulettes, instruction manuals, inserts, and even the protective embossed cardboard sheet under the lid. The train was unpacked and set up at Christmas for ten years, then carefully stored away for the next four decades. Although I never ran the train, I understood that it was tested and operated well before I bought the set. The box and protective cardboard over-sheet shows a little wear, but not much, and of course, t is some yellowing of the paperwork in the set. (See photos.)
