This is a rare vintage 1962 Supro Kingston model Res-o-glas electric guitar. This model was only produced for a couple of years and is one of the earlier Res-o-glass (fiberglass) models. Although it looks like a solidbody it's actually a Res-o-glas hollow body with internal wood frame and a bolt-on wood neck. The body measures approx. 15 1/4" across the lower bout and is about 1 7/8" thick. Guitar weighs 6.2 lbs. It has one pickup in the bridge position with volume and tone controls and a slider switch. It has a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The top and sides are one piece Res-o-glass in "Sand Buff" finish with a white Res-o-glass back. This guitar is all original with possible exception of the tuners which are the correct vintage (not repros) single line Kluson tuners but with oval buttons instead of the butterfly shape buttons you would expect to see on a Supro. One of the tuner buttons appears to be a newer replacement. It may have had some other type of tuners on it at some point as I can see a slight imprint but there are no added or extra screw holes. The nut has been replaced at some point and two of the round metal covers that cover the neck bolts on the back of the body are replacements ( just like the originals, very minor). One of the strap buttons may also be an old replacement. That's it everything else is original including: Finish, frets, bridge, tailpiece, pickguard, pickup, pots, wiring, solder joints, everything. I'm guessing it had a headstock logo that's missing (as is common) and it's also missing 1 knob but everything else is intact. Guitar is in very good condition with scratches, nicks, dings and wear but overall nice and very attractive (and 49 years old). There is a crack on the Res-o-glas back by the upper neck bolt hole and at the back end. This is a common type crack on these Res-o-glas guitars. This is very rare model and I could only find pictures of 3 other examples on the internet, 2 of the 3 had the same type back cracks. These cracks are stable and not structural because of the wood frame inside (which the neck actually bolts too). The back is a thin covering of Res-o-glass over the wood frame and again these type of back cracks are very common. There are no other cracks or breaks and no neck or headstock cracks. Guitar plays well and sounds very good. The neck is straight with good action and normal moderate fret wear with plenty of life. As mentioned, the nut has been replaced at some point and it could use a new properly fitted nut. Again, it plays well the way it is but with a new nut and normal set-up it could be better. The pickup is strong and all electronics are in good working order. Pots are quiet. Pots are date coded late 1962. The serial number is T821XX also dating it to 1962. Pickguard and pickup mounting ring are both nice with no cracks. Includes a vintage non-original chipboard plush lined case (probably originally from a Harmony). Case is in good shape with normal light wear. Again, this is a very rare model that was only made for a couple of years. I could only find two examples for sale, each on different vintage dealers lists, and they were each priced at $1095. I'm selling this one with No Reserve and a very low starting price.
