****PLEASEREAD THE ENTIRE TEXT OF THIS LISTING BEFORE BIDDING**** You are bidding on a shell pack of Vintage 1978 Ludwig Drums with the BLUE AND OLIVE POINTED badge in BLACK CORTEX finish in the “BIG BEAT” configuration – 8x12” Tom, 9x13” Tom, 16x16” Floor Tom and 14x22” Bass Drum. The shell construction of are highly desirable 3 ply with reinforcing rings (Maple/Poplar/Maple), with the CLEAR interiors and the badge numbers indicate that these drum were manufactured in 1978. These are the highly sought after vintage drums! Vintage drums = vintage sound! The bass drum sounds incredible!!! These drums are in great condition for being 34 years old. The finish on each drum is very shiny as much as black cortex shines (it is a sheen and not high gloss like a piano finish) and, essentially, these drums match spot on with all serial numbers being very close to each other. They lack very little to be great drums as this is the cleanest, best preserved set of vintage Ludwigs I have ever come across! These drums are not museum quality but are very close to it as there are very few flaws in the finish! There are no flaws in the construction. I WOULD RATE THESE DRUMS A 9.0 TO A 9.3 ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10, WITH 10 BEING ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS, SHOWROOM CONDITION! THEY ARE THAT NICE!!! Drum by drum breakdown : 14x22” Bass Drum: · BLUE & OLIVE badge 1629771 - a 1978 production badge number. · 3 ply maple/poplar/maple construction with reinforcing rings · BLACK CORTEX finish still shines like new, and is in excellent condition. · Curved retracting spurs (No. 1306) in good condition with minimal rust and the rubber feet are present. · All factory lugs, t-handled tension rods and claws are present and in good condition. The hoops are in good condition and typical of the Ludwig bass drum hoops. The batter side hoop has a defect where the pedal attaches has been slightly bent but not broken. · Tom mount is in good condition, operated by a 7/16” bolt. 8x12” Tom Tom: · BLUE & OLIVE badge with serial number 1629788 - a 1978 production badge number. · 3 ply maple/poplar/maple construction with reinforcing rings · BLACK CORTEX finish still shines like new and is in excellent condition! · Large classic lugs all present and shiny. · Round felt internal muffler is present and in good working condition. The hoops have very few, if any flaws. · Bracket type tom mount is present and in good condition. 9x13” Tom Tom: · BLUE & OLIVE badge with serial number 1629767, a 1978 production number. · 3 ply maple/poplar/maple construction with reinforcing rings · BLACK CORTEX finish still shines like new and is in excellent condition! The lap joint is beginning to lift slightly, however, and now is the time to get it fixed! · Large classic lugs all present and shiny. · Round felt internal muffler is present but is not factory (neither is the round adjustment knob) but is in good working condition; the hoops have very few, if any defects. · Bracket type tom mount is present and in good condition. 16x16” Floor Tom: · BLUE & OLIVE badge with serial number 1629769 - a 1978 production badge number. · 3 ply maple/poplar/maple construction with reinforcing rings · BLACK CORTEX finish still shines like new and is in excellent condition! · Large classic lugs all present and shiny; the hoops have very few, if any defects. · Round felt internal muffler is present and in good working condition. · Floor Tom legs are present but may not be factory Ludwig 5023 legs. The 781 tom holder is included. This is an excellent opportunity to own the Holy Grail of vintage drums. Again, these drums are not perfect and are not being presented as such.
