Please read the complete description BEFORE you bid. Though in Great condition, she and her clothing have been played with. You will find that I am honest and picky in my description. I will start by saying that she is a ‘put together’ girl. When I received her, she was missing one of her lower legs. I have been collecting 8” Betsy parts for several years and had a leg that is a VERY close match. You may not had noticed, if I hadn’t mentioned it. This puts her in a lower pricing bracket than you will find on many of the lovely 1 st year (1957) Betsy dolls, yet I believe that you will find her to be an asset to your collection. Betsy’s positive points: -- thick, rarer RED HAIR sewn to a wig mesh base (only used on 1 st year dolls) with BOTH ORIGINAL BARRETTES and NO BALD SPOTS -- vivid face coloring and LONG LASHES as were often painted on 1 st year dolls -- NO CHEEK RUBS or other missing facial features -- lovely GREEN eyes with perfect upper lashes -- eyes open and close nicely on their own -- head and arms are on ORIGINAL rubber bands, snug not loose, and will hold poses nicely -- only seam cracked is the crotch (see below) -- 1 st year plastic knee pegs still present and in excellent condition -- knees bend easily and hold poses well -- NO KNEE FLARES -- McCall mark in a circle on her back -- This Betsy CAN SIT with a gentle pressure to her hips. However, I don’t recommend doing this often because it opens the crotch crack some. -- Her legs are stable enough to allow her to stand with careful positioning (not too swingy at the hips as are most). Not-so-positive points (don’t distract from her display or—I believe—her collectability): -- right knee has 2 cracks—other knee is just fine -- crotch is cracked (under 1/8” wide) -- small light gray spot on one side of her buttocks -- the back of one leg (calf area) has several very thin lines which is common—hey! I’m over 50 also and Betsy’s legs look much better than mine! Clothes: Betsy’s gown and panties are from the 1957 ‘Bride’ outfit. The dress looks great with clean and unstained fabric that does not have holes, tears, or missing stitches. If you look closely, you will see that there are a few small strained areas in the bodice. I restitched the underarm seams and the lace to a portion of one sleeve. The matching taffeta panties are clean and in excellent condition and have elastic that still has stretch with no holes, stains or missing stitches. The elastic and the panties have some wrinkling. These items came to me through e-bay purchases. I have a smoke free home and I do not smell unpleasant odors on them, but I cannot guarantee what environment they came from. In my opinion, this sweet girl will make an excellent addition to your collection. *** I do combine shipment on multiple wins of my other auctions to save on shipping.
