Vintage 1940's-early 1950's Hale Pua Frank Oda Airbrush Painting on Velvet, Hawaiian Woodrose, Tiki Bar. This original vintage painting is in good condition, with some fading to the velvet, I believe it has been reframed & there's one light crack in the paint on the flower, visible in the last photo with the zoom. There is no paint loss. It is signed in the lower right corner: Hale Pua Hawaii. The backing paper has the original information text about the painting from Hawaii Glass & Art in Honolulu, Hawaii. This airbrush velvet painting is stunning, as you can see from the photos. It's a Hawaiian Woodrose with a couple of buds, one opening bud, and green leaves with tendrils hanging down from the plant. The detail & shading is expertly done, as can be expected from Frank Oda's company. The painting is 12" x 10", with the oak frame it measures 11 5/8" x 13 5/8". On October 25, 1946 Frank Oda & a partner started Hawaii Glass & Arts. Prior to WWll Mr. Oda worked as an artist & book illustrator for the Tongg Publishing Co. where he illustrated classic Hawaiiana books, such as Birds of Hawaii by George C. Munro, Common Insects of Hawaii by Fullaway & Krauss, Hawaiian Flowers & Flowering Trees by Kuch & Tongg & Hawaiian Fishes by Tucker.
