Up for auction is this remarkable set of pottery - 3 blue / green glazed yellow colored clay lotus leaf lily pad plates with a mystery mark - an M with a crown or flower over it with PAT. APP FOR within a circle on it. I've tried to research this mark and I believe the clay is ada but I can't identify any potteries starting with the letter M using the mark. I purchased these many years ago with the 3 crabs that look an awful lot like Dickota pottery but they are unmarked as well. The glaze color on the crabs is virtually identical to that on the plates, but the crabs are completely glazed while the plates have dry, unglazed bottoms. So I don't know if these are meant to be together but I would be thrilled for any insight. Condition wise the plates are great - a few glaze pops, and one small rough spot on the edge of one of the plates that is not a chip. They are approx. 8 1/2" in diameter. One of the crabs is just about perfect, another one has a small chip on the front which I have shown in one of the photos, a third has 3 hairline cracks - one on the back rim that I was able to catch in the photo and the other two extending from the rim on each side going toward the points 3/4 - 1" that you have to look very closely to see.
