ALDERSON & GYDE LTD SHIP ANCHOR LIGHT LANTERN ALDERSON & GYDE LTD ANCHOR PATT 5902 LIGHT LANTERN The best one we have seen! This is a wonderful looking, huge vintage nautical anchor lamp. It stands a full 21 inches high overall with the handle extended. It is 19 inches tall with the bail down and a full 21 inches tall with the bail up. It is also a full 8 inches in diameter. It has a wonderful one-quarter inch thick heavy glass fresnel style lens to disperse the light in all 360 degrees. The oil lamp twists out at the bottom to service and fill the oil burner. The oil burner itself stands almost 6 inches tall. The attached brass tag reads: ANCHOR PATT 5902, Alderson & Gyde LTD, Birmingham . The glass contains a date of 1944. This type of lamp was burned when a ship was anchored to inform all other vessels of its position while anchored or stationary. The lamp is fully functional. This anchor lamp is in very good condition remembering that it was used at sea. The metal is heavy and thick and in good condition with no damage. The lantern itself has a wonderful dark soft patina overall. The thick, heavy fresnel glass lens is intact and unbroken and without cracks. It contains an unused wick. The wick adjustment knob works.
