You are bidding on a Vintage Antique HOBE Tibetan Chessman Hand-Carved, 14K & 925 Brooch! VERY RARE!! I am pleased to offer this famous brooch from the Sylvia Hobé's Asian-themed 1947-1948 Tibetan Chessman series. The finely carved figure in an intricate flower and leaf setting flanking the Asian man is sterling with a gold vermeil and a 14K gold wrapped base. Although some of the figures were done in ivory, this one appears to be enameled over either the Tibetan Wood or Ox Bone which were all used in the various designs from this series. There are a total of 20 patents in this series - all designed by Sylvia Hobe in 1947. The pin is marked "HOBÉ, 1/20th 14K ON STERLING", "DESIGN PATENT" on the back side of the brooch. A patent was filed February 28, 1947; patent #149,490, with Sylvia Hobé listed as the inventor. Background on Designer: The Hobe Cie jewelery company was founded in Paris in 1887.
